Patience is an Associate Professor of Paediatrics at the Bayero University Kano, and a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, Nigeria. She obtained her bachelor’s degree (MBBS) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, with postgraduate and subspecialty trainings, certifications and degrees in paediatric nephrology, health economics and pharmacoeconomics from universities and teaching hospitals in London, UK, Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa and Barcelona, Spain.
She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, the International Society of Nephrology and the International Paediatric Nephrology Association. She is well travelled for research, training and advocacy purposes, and is involved in both local and international research. She has trained many students, doctors and nurses in nephrology, and has several published articles in local, national and international peer-reviewed journals. She is currently researching at the doctoral level into modifying practice in acute kidney injury (AKI) identification and management in resource-constrained settings, among other research interests, and is part of the H3Africa Kidney Disease Research Network, researching into childhood nephrotic syndrome.
She is passionate about acute care nephrology, peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplant and is a strong advocate for nephro-prevention and promotion. Asides nephrology, she is also passionate about general health promotion and immunization advocacy, and renders service to civil society organizations. She loves to travel, sing, dance, learn languages and explore cultures.
