    John I. Anetor, PhD, FCMLS (Nig) ERT, FRSC (UK), ATS, FAACC

    Clinical Chemist, Prof. and H.O.D of Chemical Pathology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

    John I. ANETOR is a Clinical Chemist and a Professor of Chemical Pathology at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and the current Head of Department, with over 40 years’ experience in laboratory medicine, cutting across all strata of the field. He previously served as Head, Biomedical Laboratory Science Department, of his university. His undergraduate education was in Medical Laboratory science at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, winning the prize for the best academic student. He did his National Youth Service (NYSC) at the General Hospital, Darazo, Bauchi State.

    John Anetor had predoctoral training in laboratory medicine at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Forester hill, Health Campus, Aberdeen, Scotland. He holds both an M.Sc. and a PhD in Chemical Pathology, sub-specialisation in toxicology, from the University of Ibadan. His post-doctoral training was at the Pathology Department, Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine (formerly Osaka City Medical School), Osaka, Japan. He also holds a certificate in analytical toxicology from Kings’ College Hospital (KCH), London.

    John Anetor worked in the Medical Unit, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan where he was the Medical Laboratory Services Officer (Manager) for over fourteen years from where he changed career and joined the University of Ibadan. His broad field of research is the mitigation of toxic states using nutritional factors and molecular mechanisms.

    Professor Anetor is a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Chemistry (FAACC), Fellow Academy of Toxicological Sciences (ATS), Fellow Royal Society of Chemistry, UK (FRSC, UK), Fellow, Institute of Biomedical Science, UK (FIBMS, UK) and that of Nigeria (FCMLS, Nig.), and Fellow, American College of Nutrition (FACN).He was a member of the Association of Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory ACB, (UK) up to 2021. He is a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT), Member, Society of Toxicology (SOT), USA. Foundation Member and Adviser, Forum of Nigerian Toxicologists (FONTOX) and that of the West African Society of Toxicology (WASOT).

    John Anetor is also Member, International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT) and on the editorial board of a number of journals, including African Journal of Laboratory Medicine (AJLM) of which he is Section Editor for Chemical Pathology and the American Journal of Biopharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (AJBPS) where he an Associate Editor.

    He was a Visiting Professor/ Researcher at the Alberta Centre for Toxicology (ACFT), Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. John Anetor was a 2-term Member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) Committee on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (C-TLM) and currently a member of the Taskforce on Environmental Impact of Laboratory Medicine (TF-EILM) of which he Secretary; Team lead of the Newborn Screening Consortium, Nigeria and Corresponding Member of the joint IFCC/ ISNS global Taskforce on Newborn Screening (TF-NBS), representing Nigeria.

    John Anetor is a 2-term member of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (N-HREC) of Nigeria. He was a 2-term member of the management committee of the University of Ibadan Multidisciplinary Central Research Laboratory (MCRL). He is the foundation Chair, College of Medicine Committee on Consortium of Laboratories. John Anetor is Married to Gloria O. Anetor, PhD, MPH, FRSPH (UK), a Professor of Public Health Education at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and they are blessed with children.
