Ifeyinwa “Ify” Osunkwo, M.D., M.P.H.

Ify is an acclaimed global leader who joined Forma as senior vice president and chief patient officer with more than 25 years of experience in sickle cell disease management and research. Working to improve the overall patient experience and access to care in sickle cell disease has been Ify’s career passion. Prior to joining Forma, Ify founded and directed the Sickle Cell Disease Enterprise at Atrium Health, a vertically integrated healthcare system serving 1400+ adults and 400+ children with sickle cell disease in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
Ify was also a professor of medicine and pediatrics at the affiliated Levine Cancer Institute of Atrium Health. Previously, she was the medical director for the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta @ Egleston and assistant professor of pediatrics at Emory University. Ify was responsible for directing the Teen Scene Transition Program, providing care coordination and education to facilitate the smooth transition of young adult patients from pediatric to adult care. She earned a medical degree from the University of Nigeria College of Medical Sciences and Dentistry and an M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Ify received her pediatric residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ, and completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplantation at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. Ify is board certified in pediatric hematology oncology and has served as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials over the course of her career.
