Dr Wale Atoyebi

Dr Wale Atoyebi is lead for Red cell disorders at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford, and honorary senior clinical lecturer at Oxford University. He is clinical lead for one of ten NHS England commissioned Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centres.
Trained in medicine in Nigeria, he underwent his haematology specialist training in Oxford. His main interests are: Haemoglobinopathies and disorders of iron metabolism including diagnostics utilising an Oxford NGS iron regulatory panel. Has published papers on SCD, contributed to UK SCD guidelines and is a principal investigator with oversight (DMC, EAC) responsibilities for global clinical trials in SCD. He is also involved in collaborative research focused on strengthening healthcare systems by improving best practice in the diagnostics and management of SCD in sub-Saharan Africa. Currently FRCPath examiner, member of Royal College of Pathologists (UK) international committee and clinical lead for the EU – H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018 (ARISE) program. He is also a trustee of ASCAT.
