DAY 2, LABORATORY WORKSHOP: Strengthening local laboratories towards accreditation; a key to improving clinical trials in Africa
Dr Kingsley Ochei is a Medical Laboratory Scientist & Public Health Specialist with over 20 years working experience leading in project design, management, budgeting, planning, implementation, supervision and monitoring and evaluation in sub-Saharan African countries, with hands-on experience in Laboratory diagnosis / treatment monitoring of public health diseases at the national and international levels.
He is experienced in providing surveillance response to disease outbreak of public health importance and skillful in case investigation, contact tracing, surveillance, health promotion, WASH and quality assurance as well as developing standard operating procedure for public health setting. He is a Facilitator and resource person in laboratory services, health system strengthening, disease surveillance and emergency response to diseases in collaboration with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), WHO, CDC, USAID and other implementing partners. He Provides oversight and technical assistance in strengthening laboratory systems and networking, implementing quality management systems and pursuing local and international accreditation for both clinical and public health laboratories.
Kingsley facilitated the mentorship and mentoring towards accreditation of 4 Medical Laboratories to achieve a 3-STAR (2no); 4 STAR (1no) and 5 STAR (1no) rating including the establishment 3 Viral Load laboratories, 311 ART Laboratories, 81 GeneXpert laboratories, 4 BSL3 Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) Laboratories and 4 DR-TB treatment centers. He began his career as a Medical laboratory scientist in Wuse General Hospital, Abuja in 2001. Since then he has served as the Senior Technical officer, Laboratory Services to FHI 360; Senior Technical Advisor, Surveillance Systems to John Snow Incorporated /MEASURE Evaluation and Laboratory Specialist to Management sciences for Health (MSH) among others.
He is currently the Senior Tuberculosis Surveillance Advisor to USAID Global Health STAR project in Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Public Health from University of Nicaragua in South America, Masters degrees in Immunology from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. He is also a Fellows of West African Post Graduate College of Medical laboratory Sciences (FWAPCMLS), Fellows of African Institute of Public Health (FAIPH), Fellow of the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (FNiBSA), International Foundation for Biosafety Associations (IFBA) Certified Biorisk Management Professional , Member National Laboratory Technical Working Group, Country GeneXpert Advisory Team (cGAT), TB /HIV Technical Committee, National Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) Committee, active member national Laboratory strategic plan drafting committee, national committee for the review of Integrated Disease Surveillance Reporting (IDSR) guidelines, International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, American society for Microbiology, African CDC, African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), International AIDS Society, and a Co-investigator of several ongoing implementation sciences. He served as a Consultant to FHI 360, MSH etc in proposal writing and has over 60 publications in high impact peer review journals.
