Dr Huwaida Bulhan
Senior Clinical Research Operations Lead Area Africa | Project Lead, Global Health Equity & Population Science, Roche/Genentech Inc. Kenya
Dr. Huwaida Bulhan joined Roche-Kenya in 2019 bringing almost two decades of experience in primary healthcare and the biotech industry to the team.
She leads the clinical research operations activities in East, Central and West Africa for Roche, supporting the advancement of scientific discoveries, and addressing barriers in clinical trial participation as a Project Lead with the Roche Global Health Equity and Population Science department.
Huwaida is also responsible for the recruitment, retention and development of diverse local talent within the clinical research space on the continent. She is currently a member of the Roche Africa Evidence Generation Squad, a contributor to the Roche African Genome Program, and a member of the Advancing Inclusive Research Community within the Roche global organization.
Prior to her role at Roche, Huwaida worked as a medical doctor for the Ministry of Health in Kenya, in Nairobi and Garissa, before moving to clinical research oversight and management in private industry as well as academia in Europe and North America. She acquired her medical training at the University of Nairobi, and further training in Public Health with a focus in Global Health research, at the University of East London. Huwaida is passionate about health equity, and how research can be transformative to healthcare practice and policy in Africa.
