Professor Augustine Onyeaghala is a renowned scholar, clinical researcher, quality management systems and quality assurance professional, with extensive experience in medical laboratory science, clinical research, public health, and health systems strengthening, as well as phytomedicine drug research and development.
As a Professor of Clinical Chemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, he has made significant contributions to advancing quality and regulatory systems that support credible, ethical, and efficient laboratory and clinical research operations in Africa. His clinical research output using natural supplements has been beneficial to many with reduced immunity, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, and infectious diseases.
Prof. Onyeaghala holds advanced academic and professional qualifications in Clinical Research, Clinical Chemistry, and Quality Management Systems. He has received specialized training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Clinical Research Leadership, and Quality Systems Implementation, positioning him as an expert in building research and laboratory quality infrastructures that meet international standards.
He is the founder of Nestra Klinikal, a clinical research and quality management system organization dedicated to strengthening clinical trial capacity and quality management practices in health and research institutions. Through Nestra Klinikal, Prof. Onyeaghala has led initiatives focused on clinical trial site development, QMS operationalization, capacity building, and regulatory compliance — supporting organizations to transition from basic compliance to a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
He has led the integration of quality management system and quality assurance into the training curriculum of both undergraduate biomedical science students and professionals who are seeking knowledge and certification in quality assurance.
His professional work integrates academic insight with practical implementation, covering areas such as quality system design, clinical trial oversight, laboratory accreditation (ISO 15189), and systems integration for clinical and translational research.
Prof. Onyeaghala’s scholarly outputs and project leadership have contributed to the advancement of quality-driven research practices and evidence generation for health policy and innovation, and most of his published works have appeared mostly in top-rated journals.
A member of the Society of Quality Assurance (SQA) in the United States, Fellow Global Health Trial Network, mentor, teacher, consultant on policy-focused and health systems strengthening projects, and thought leader, he continues to inspire quality-centered research culture and institutional capacity strengthening across Africa, advancing clinical research governance and sustainable QMS development.
He is a recipient of the jointly funded Wellcome Trust, National Institute of Health (NIH), and UK Medical Research Council Clinical Research Travel Scholarship, and many others.
