Dr. Afam Obidike is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist with over 17 years of experience with specific interests in Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, Health Care Development, Emergency Medicine and Public Health. He currently serves as the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Anambra State, Nigeria, working in partnership with the State Government and critical stakeholders to drive sustainable healthcare reforms in the State.
Prior to his appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Health, he served as the Chief Consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi. As the Commissioner for Heath in Anambra State, He has successfully implemented a number of reforms in healthcare not limited to free ante-natal and delivery services in the State. Construction and equipping of General Hospitals and Primary HealthCare Centers to improve access to healthcare delivery, training of healthcare staff across the State, boosting the staff strength by over 100% to cater to the increasing population. He has successfully increased development partner investments in the State, particularly in primary healthcare.
He has served and still serves on a number of Committee and has published a number of academic research contributing and expanding the knowledge on Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine.
