Dr Wale Atoyebi

Dr Wale Atoyebi, Consultant haematologist at Oxford University Hospitals, Oxford, UK and honorary senior clinical lecturer, Oxford university.
He underwent his medical school training in Nigeria and post-graduate haematology training in Oxford including a 2 years LRF research fellowship.
His main interests are haemoglobin disorders including sickle cell disease and thalassaemia and disorders of iron metabolism including diagnostics utilising an Oxford NGS iron regulatory panel. He has published and contributed to UK guidelines for the management of SCD.
He was recently appointed National Clinical Lead for SCD and Thalassaemia, for the GIRFT programme at NHS England. He will work with specialist providers and wider services delivering SCD and thalassaemia care across England, with the aim of identifying and understanding variations in care, barriers to improvement and seeking out examples of best practice.
He also has oversight responsibilities for global clinical trials in SCD.
He is a member the RCPath international committee and was clinical lead for the EU – H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018 (ARISE) program.
He was previously Clinical Director of the department of clinical haematology in Oxford, for 15 years the training programme director for haematology in the Oxford deanery and is currently a FRCPath examiner in haematology. He is a Trustee and on the scientific committee of the Academy for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (ASCAT)
